Who You Are
You’re a Senior Cloud Engineer working on the infrastructure side of cloud engineering, with deep hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production environments.
You’re used to working in critical, high-volume systems, where reliability and zero downtime are essential. You collaborate closely with Platform, Infrastructure, and SRE teams, and you’re comfortable integrating infrastructure work with CI/CD and GitOps workflows while communicating clearly with stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and execute the migration of Istio service mesh deployments from IstioOperator-based configurations to Helm-managed installations across production EKS clusters.
- Ensure zero-downtime upgrades, preserving traffic routing, security policies, and observability configurations.
- Design and implement safe migration strategies, including rollback and failure recovery procedures.
- Troubleshoot complex Kubernetes networking and service mesh issues, including Envoy proxy behavior and traffic management policies.
- Work closely with platform teams to integrate service mesh deployments into existing CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
- Support production-grade traffic management patterns, including canary releases and gradual traffic shifting.
- Create and maintain documentation, migration guides, and runbooks for operating the upgraded service mesh.
- Provide knowledge transfer to internal engineering teams to ensure long-term ownership and maintainability.
- Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly to stakeholders throughout the engagement.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production environments.
- Deep expertise with Istio service mesh, including migrations from legacy deployment patterns to modern approaches.
- Strong understanding of Helm, including templating, dependency management, and release lifecycle practices.
- Experience operating AWS EKS clusters and related networking components, including load balancers, ingress, and CNI plugins such as Cilium.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for distributed systems, using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and tracing systems.
- Proven ability to execute complex infrastructure migrations with minimal service disruption.
- English proficiency at B2+ level or higher.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with CNCF ecosystem tooling and GitOps-based deployment models.
- Experience integrating service mesh architectures into CI/CD pipelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
